About the Zaphir Chimes
Each Zaphir chime is built around a long-fibre celluloid tube shaped to Golden Ratio proportions, which gives it a distinctly crystal clear, luminous sound with a long, lingering decay. Eight precisely tuned steel rods are suspended inside the tube and struck by an inner pearl as the wind moves the sail. The result is a sound that is both meditative and beautifully musical - clear, resonant and deeply calming.
Unlike the bamboo-bodied Koshi chimes, the Zaphir's celluloid tube produces a brighter, more transparent tone. Both families share the same craftsmanship and materials for their rods, but each carries its own distinct acoustic character. Zaphir chimes work best in sheltered outdoor areas or indoors, where their large sail can catch even a gentle breeze.
