How do you use Zaphir chimes

In general you have two options: passive and active.

Using the Zaphir as a Passive Instrument

You can use the Zaphir chimes as a passive instrument by hanging it in an area where the wind or a gentle draught brings it into play - above a window, on a porch or near an open door, for example. The large sail catches even the lightest movement in the air, and the chime will sing on its own throughout the day. This makes it a wonderful ambient presence in your home, offering spontaneous moments of beauty and calm without any effort.

The Zaphir works best in wind-protected outdoor areas or indoors near a source of airflow. Not sure where to hang yours? We cover both indoor and outdoor options in detail. You can also find out more about using Zaphir chimes outdoors and how to protect them from the elements.

Using the Zaphir as an Active Instrument

If you like to use the Zaphir as an active instrument, you can move it by hand and let the rods ring freely. There are many beautiful ways to do this. The Zaphir is wonderful to use during a yoga class, at a meditation circle, giving or receiving sound baths, joining into other instruments or during smudging rituals. It can also be played over the body during Reiki or energy healing sessions, allowing the vibrations to settle into the space around a person.

You can also simply sit back, relax and move the chime gently while you breathe slowly and feel the energy. Hold the ring at the top, let the tube swing lightly and allow the sound to come to you. There is no wrong way - follow what feels natural.

Two Chimes Are Even Better

One of the most beautiful discoveries you can make with the Zaphir collection is how wonderfully the chimes sound together. Two chimes played side by side - or hung close together so they ring in response to the same breeze - create a richer, more layered soundscape that is even more meditative and immersive. The Crystalide and Twilight is one of our favourite combinations - fresh and dynamic, moving between Spring and Autumn with a melody that is full of life and perfectly balanced.

How Do You Choose Your Chime?

You can get your Zaphir in different colors and tunings, one chime at a time or all 5 together. We also highly recommend taking a look at our beautiful chime stands, which allow you to place your Zaphir anywhere in your home without needing to hang it.

If you are not sure which one you like most, listen to the sound samples and close your eyes. Your feeling will tell you which one to choose. Each tuning carries its own energy, color and season - and the right chime has a way of making itself known.

Do Zaphir Chimes Sound Like a Koshi?

Yes, kind of. The Koshi chime has a warm, round and bell-like tone - grounded and full-bodied, with a resonance that feels close and intimate. The Zaphir produces a brighter, more transparent sound with a longer, more luminous decay - crystal clear and airy, as if the note floats away into space. We compared them, listen in:
